A few words about retail in a 15 mn chat:

  • perspective for 2023.
  • advice to the founders
  • their own priorities as retailers and destinations for indie brands

ADVICE TO THE FOUNDERS : omnichanel, engaged community, iconic SKUs

“The true path to scale and success is I believe in omnichanel strategy. The days of spending 100 dollars to get 20 dollars are over!” Patrick

“My advice with the current funding environment is to create a genuine community around you, connect with people, if you are a small brand don’t pay a PR to do it, be authentic.” Romain

Be disciplined with the allocation of your dollars, and your multiples. You have to be a Jack of all trades.” Patrick

We review 10s of brands every week and today to stand out, you need a genuine community. The days of being only good at perf marketing are over, and paid media is too competitive”. Romain

Partnership: manage expectations and make sure you are aligned, wether it’s sales, customer acquisition, PR plan, have the right call to action.” Patrick

Focus and push one product per category! You need to have very strong angle in 2023.” Romain

Yes, fewer SKUs! And with your D2C first, track your data.” Patrick

TRENDS : SCENTS, MAKE-UP after 18 months of skincare and haircare, crowded space now.

Beauty, it’s all about discovery products. During the pandemic, skincare and haircare, and now scents and make-up.” Patrick

Scents, definitely, putting at risk traditional brands, as Millennials now use fragrances according to their mood, in a different way. We are launching a new scent in our own brand”. Patrick

We saw a decrease of online traffic since summer 2021 and at the same time more competition in the beauty space online, that is why our omnichannel strategy has been successful.” Romain

Make-up, and make-up artists are the ultimate experts. I’m particularly proud of our professional make-up artist program Clean Collective, with classes, events, conversations on group chat platform Geneva, with celebrity make-up artist Katey Denno ”. Romain

thirteen lune, The e-commerce destination for BIPOC founded brands is opening their first flagship in trendy Larchmont district in L.A.! Continue opening JC Penney doors, and could incubate with their new funding additional brands or acquire existing brands

In two short years, thirteen lune has grown from an e-commerce destination featuring 13 foundational Black-founded brands, to offering 160+ beauty brands on its platform, 90% of which are BIPOC-founded, with the remaining 10% being from ally brands. In 2023, thirteen lune will continue expanding into 600 JCPenney locations nationwide and open its own flagship store in Los Angeles.

“Since the launch of thirteen lune in 2020, we’ve proven that inclusivity and scalability are not mutually exclusive,” says Patrick Herning, thirteen lune CEO and Co-Founder. “With a mission to inspire the discovery of BIPOC-founded brands for people of all colors and backgrounds, we enter 2023 continuing to lead with intention and authenticity that will position us to continue our growth and momentum.”

We add Nyakio’s quote readable in the media:

As a 20+ year Black beauty entrepreneur, it’s an honor to shape the landscape of inclusive beauty, acting as an agent of change for BIPOC brand founders to receive recognition and opportunity,” says Nyakio Grieco, thirteen lune Co-Founder. “Our partners share thirteen lune’s mission to support diverse founders who have historically had fewer resources and opportunities to build a business and create generational wealth.

The funding is also intended to go toward building thirteen lune’s in-house collection of products. Co-founder Patrick Herning told WWD that thirteen lune could incubate additional brands or acquire existing brands.

TheDetoxMarket

There is a lot of consolidation in the clean beauty space, Credo and Follain, or partnerships Credo and Ulta. Romain Gaillard just signed a partnership with the Faces (part of Chaloub group, luxury conglomerate) in the Middle East area. This area has a huge potential in beauty, with savvy customers, eager to discover new brands. TheDetoxMarket is poised to take advantage of this market opportunity and bring its commitment to clean beauty to the Middle East. The partnership with Faces will provide access to a wider audience and allow TheDetoxMarket to continue its mission of promoting clean and sustainable beauty products.

“We are excited to bring our expertise in clean beauty to the Middle East, where consumers are becoming more aware of the ingredients in their beauty products,” says Romain Gaillard, CEO and Co-Founder of TheDetoxMarket. “We believe this partnership will allow us to further our mission of educating consumers on the importance of using clean and sustainable products for their skin and overall health.”

In addition to the partnership with Faces, TheDetoxMarket will continue to focus on building its in-house product collection and expanding its footprint through additional partnerships and collaborations. The brand will also continue to prioritize talent, as it is crucial to have a dedicated and knowledgeable team to drive the company’s mission forward.
