FAB founders’ conversation in NYC. Perspectives 2024.
NOV 14, a meeting Co-hosted by Lin Chen founder of PinkMoon and NYC Fab co-chapter leader and Odile Roujol Fab ventures (seed stage), founder of the global Fab community.
The TakeAway:
Funding: “There is a shift in consumer brands’ funding.
- Some of the VCs won’t return (they are back to Saas or big tech AI driven platforms). Be obsessed by your Ebitda! Choose your priorities. It’s better in 2024 to be slower to grow but healthy in the business fundamentals (retention rate, AOV, limited marketing spending).”
- “I see a lot of safes following the VC's first round with BAs and current investors, same valuation or around, avoiding predatory terms with new investors. More than ever, you need to leverage your circle of trust for insights and support in the macroeconomic context.”
Retailer strategy: “Carefully choose your partners; don’t have too many of them. Inventories mean a cost, time, and energy to succeed in the long term.”
Experience: “More than ever, think of what makes your difference”.
- ‘It’s your community, a feeling of belonging. What makes your brand unique is the customer experience online and in stores. Be creative in your partnerships.“ Lin Chen, Pink Moon
The Quote about the community and FaB meetings:
“As a founder, the journey building can feel incredibly lonely; many don’t understand the highs and lows of it all. Last night’s FAB event was invaluable because I was able to connect with other founders, share stories, and get advice. I feel honored to have been introduced.” Tori Bell
